As India is becoming more and more digitized, the incidents of scams are also increasing. There is also a continuous increase in the number of fraudsters working in the digital banking sector. Almost every day there are reports of people becoming victims of some kind of fraud. In view of this, State Bank of India (SBI) has issued a warning to its customers and appealed to them to beware of such fraudsters. The bank has issued an important alert especially for the users of its YONO app. SBI has said that cyber fraudsters are adopting new methods to target customers, and even the slightest lapse in caution can result in their bank account being completely emptied.
Fraud in the name of YONO
In recent times, fraudsters have been creating fake pages in the name of “YONO SBI” on social media platforms in an attempt to dupe people. These fraudsters run misleading sponsored ads with captions like, “Forgot your username or password? Click this link to recover it instantly.” In response to this, SBI has issued a strict warning and advised users to *not* click on any such links as they are completely fake and designed to steal your banking credentials (login information).
be careful, be alert
If a user clicks on such a link and enters their personal information, they are almost immediately at risk of becoming a victim of fraud. Therefore, the Bank advises users to strictly use only the official YONO SBI app or the official website of the Bank. Additionally, Users should never share their personal information in response to any unknown link, message or phone call. In particular, you should *never* share your OTP (one-time password) or account password under any circumstances.
Fraudsters can call by posing as bank officials
Additionally, according to SBI, fraudsters may try to contact you through phone calls, SMS or email and pretend to be bank officials. They often try to extract sensitive information from users by citing reasons like KYC update, account suspension or luring them with offers of reward points. The bank has clearly stated that no bank official will ever ask you for your OTP, PIN, password or card information over phone or through text message. If someone makes such a demand, he is definitely a fraudster. Especially those using YONO SBI app need to be very careful, because this app is directly linked to their bank accounts.
The bank calls from this number
Additionally, the Bank has advised that customers should be cautious about phone calls coming in the name of the Bank. Generally, SBI official calls come from numbers starting with 1600. If you receive a call from any other number, consider it suspicious and do not share any personal information. If you become a victim of any kind of fraud, do not delay; To lodge a complaint, immediately call the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930.
