The Indian stock market started the second trading day of the week with a decline on Tuesday, February 24. The main benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50, opened in the red. The 30-share BSE Sensex index slipped 242.12 points or 0.29 per cent. The Sensex opened at 83,052.54 at the beginning of the day. NSE Nifty 50 also declined. Nifty 50 opened at 25,641.80, down 71.20 points or 0.28 per cent. By around 9:20 am, the Sensex was trading 501 points down at 82,792. Nifty 50 was trading at 25,575, slipping 137 points.
BSE’s top gainers and losers
Tata Steel, PowerGrid, NTPC, Axis Bank and Asian Paints were the top gainers. Eternal, HCL Tech, TCS, Bharti Airtel and Tech Mahindra were the top losers.
How was the market on Monday?
The Indian stock market witnessed a rise on Monday, 23 February. Key benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50, closed the day in the green. The Sensex closed 479.95 points or 0.58 per cent higher at 83,294.66, while the NSE Nifty 50 closed 141.75 points or 0.55 per cent higher at 25,713.00.
Adani Ports, Kotak Bank, PowerGrid, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank were the top gainers from the BSE basket. Top losers were Tech Mahindra, Trent, HCL Tech, ITC and TCS. Nifty 100, Nifty Bank, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Smallcap 100 and Nifty Auto stocks rose, while Nifty IT and Nifty Midcap 100 stocks declined. On Monday’s trading day, 20 stocks of the BSE basket closed in the green, while 10 declined.
