Hopes for a settlement between the US and Iran raised the prospect of the Strait of Hormuz reopening, sending crude oil prices down more than 5% – a development that sparked new optimism in global markets. This positive sentiment extended to the domestic stock market as well, with both the Sensex and Nifty 50 rising during early trading hours. In the early session, Sensex jumped over 850 points, while Nifty crossed the 23,950 mark. Broadly speaking, midcap and smallcap indices are also seeing strong buying; Both Nifty Smallcap 100 and Nifty Midcap 100 have gained 1%. Sector wise, all the sectoral indices of Nifty are trading in the green. The Nifty Auto index gained nearly 2%, and the Nifty PSU Bank index gained over 1.5%, while the Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Realty indices gained over 1% each.
Amid this overall market rally, the total market capitalization of companies listed on BSE has increased by more than ₹5 lakh crore – meaning that investors’ wealth has increased by more than ₹5 lakh crore within moments of market opening. If we look at the equity benchmark indices, at 09:18 am Sensex is trading at 76,274.86, up by 859.51 points (1.14%), while Nifty 50 is at 23,975.55, up by 256.25 points (1.08%). During intra-day trading, the Sensex surged 919.42 points to hit an intraday high of 76,334.77, and the Nifty surged 269.80 points to 23,989.10.
₹5.43 lakh crore jump in investors’ wealth

Today, on May 25, 2026, when the market opened, the figure reached ₹4,67,69,081.00 crore. This represents an increase of ₹5,43,860.737 crore in investors’ wealth.
