Your Money, Your Right: PM Modi took steps for the general public, know what is this scheme and how can one avail its benefits?

Do you know that your hard-earned money could be lying unclaimed in banks, insurance companies or mutual funds for years? Thousands or lakhs of rupees may be waiting for you or your family, but have not reached you yet! Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal is a big step towards returning this hidden treasure to its rightful owners.

Through a LinkedIn post, PM Modi revealed that around ₹78,000 crore is lying in bank accounts, ₹14,000 crore in insurance companies, ₹3,000 crore in mutual funds, and ₹9,000 crore as unclaimed dividends. This money belongs to millions of Indians, who did not claim it on time due to various reasons.

PM Modi said that to help people get their unclaimed funds back, the government launched the ‘Your Money, Your Rights’ campaign in October 2025. The aim of this campaign is to ensure that every person can get their money back easily and transparently.

Web portals have been created:
RBI’s UDGAM portal – to check unclaimed bank deposits
IRDAI’s Bima Bharosa Portal – For Unclaimed Funds in Insurance Policy
SEBI’s MITRA Portal – For Unclaimed Amount in Mutual Funds
IEPFA Portal of MCA – For Dividend and Unclaimed Shares
According to the government, by December 2025, Facilitation Camps had been set up in 477 districts across the country, with a special focus on reaching remote areas. These efforts are showing good results, with approximately ₹2,000 crore already returned to their rightful owners.

PM’s appeal to the public
PM Modi has appealed to the public to take time to check these portals for unclaimed money for themselves or their families. Often, people are not aware of the money lying in old bank passbooks, lost policies, old shares or old mutual fund schemes, and this money can change their life.
