AU: No reason, BA students will read Sahni’s play, change in Hindi course
The Hindi Department of Allahabad University has made changes in the undergraduate curriculum under the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. Now BA students will read Bhisham Sahni’s play ‘Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein’ instead of Asghar Wajahat’s famous play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya’. The course also includes many new works related to the history of Hindi literature and various genres.
30 percent change in Hindi subject
Prof. of the department. Kumar Virendra told that about 30 percent syllabus of Hindi subject has been changed. This change has been passed by the Board of Baccalaureate and the Faculty Board. Under this, in the second semester of BA course of Hindi subject, Bhishma Sahni’s composition ‘Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein’ will be taught to the students under Hindi drama. At the same time, Vipin Aggarwal’s one-act play ‘Teen Apaahij’, former professor of the Physics Department of the University, has also been included in the curriculum. Students will also have to read this one-act play in the second semester only.
Chitrakoot Gyan Sabha also included
Important changes have also been made in the syllabus of the third semester. Now ‘Chitrakoot Gyan Sabha’ has also been included along with Tulsidas’s ‘Ayodhya’ text. Apart from this, the sources and traditions of writing have also been included in the curriculum related to the history of literature. In this, Prayagraj’s litterateurs Ramkumar Verma, Laxmisagar and Mohan Awasthi have been given special place.

These changes made in the curriculum will help students to understand the different periods, genres and creators of Hindi literature from a broader perspective. Under NEP, emphasis is being laid on making the courses in universities employment-oriented, multidisciplinary and contemporary. In the same sequence, the Hindi Department has also reviewed the BA syllabus and made changes in it. After these amendments made at the departmental level, students will be made to study as per the revised syllabus.
New cut off released
The cutoff of many subjects has been released on Tuesday for admission to Masters in Allahabad University. Hindi Department has released the fourth list for postgraduate admission. According to the cutoff released by the department, candidates who have scored 156 and above in unreserved category, 132 and above in OBC, 100 and above in SC, 66 and above in ST, 132 and above in EWS and 27 and above in WU category have been called for admission. The last date for online counseling and registration for PG admission in Center for Development Studies has been extended from 22nd to 23rd July. Those with 141.10 marks in unreserved, 106.20 in EWS, 141 in OBC, 94 in SC. The fifth cutoff in M.Sc. Agricultural Microbiology has been set at 160 and above marks for unreserved. Registration and document upload will take place on 22nd and 23rd July till 2 pm. Verification and fee deposit can be done till 5 pm on July 23.
