Delhi University (DU) Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh says that the syllabus for first year students under the four-year undergraduate program will be ready in two-three months. The Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) prepared as per the National Policy on Education (NEP) was approved by the Executive Council (EC) of the university on 11 February. Singh said that committees have been formed.
They are working on the syllabus and it will be ready in two-three months before the academic session 2022-23 starts. The Vice Chancellor said that the students who got admission in DU through Common University Entrance Test (CUET) would study the new syllabus. The University Grants Commission (UGC) draft states that students will have to earn 160 to 176 ‘credits’ for a four-year degree with honors/dissertation.
Now it is possible to do two academic courses simultaneously, guidelines issued
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has notified guidelines for allowing two educational programs to be conducted simultaneously through direct, online or distance education. No prior benefit can be claimed by students who have taken up two academic programs simultaneously before the notification of these guidelines.
The guideline states that a student can pursue two full-time academic programs in the direct medium provided that in such cases the class timings for one program do not coincide with the class timings of the other programme. A student can pursue two academic programs, one full time direct mode and the other open and distance mode (ODL), online mode or through two ODL and online programs simultaneously.
It said that degree or diploma programs under ODL or online mode shall be pursued only with such HEIs (higher education institutions) which are recognized by the UGC, Statutory Council or the central government for conducting such programmes. The UGC has informed that the degree or diploma programs under these guidelines shall be governed by the rules notified by it and the relevant statutory and professional councils, wherever applicable.
The UGC said the guidelines would be applicable only to students pursuing academic programs other than PhD programme. Depending on the guidelines, universities may devise mechanisms through their statutory bodies to allow their students to pursue two academic programs simultaneously.
