There is a big news for students of engineering and science. IIT Guwahati has released the official notification of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2026). This examination provides postgraduate and PhD programs in subjects like engineering, technology, science, architecture and humanities. Candidates can apply from August 25, 2025 and the last date is 25 September 2025. The GATE 2026 exam will be held on 7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026. The examination will be conducted in two shifts. The first shift will be from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and the second shift will be from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Candidates will be able to download the admit card from January 2, 2026. At the same time, the scorecard will be available free from 27 March to 31 May 2026.
New paper included
This time a special change has been made in the GATE exam. A new paper of energy science has been added under Engineering Science (XE). However, the total number of papers in the examination will be only 30. The format of the exam will be the computer based examination (CBT) as before.
So much application fee will have to be paid
The application fee in GATE 2026 has been separated according to the category. The fee for women candidates, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Divyang classes will be Rs 1000 in the general period and Rs 1500 in the extended period. Rs 2000 in normal period for all other candidates and Rs 2500 in extended period. The fee can only be paid through online mediums like debit card, credit card, net banking and UPI.
how to apply?
Candidates first visit the official website gate2026.Iitg.ac.in. After this, click on “Register” and enter your name, email ID and mobile number. Then after registration you will get a login ID and password. Now login and open the application form and fill your personal information like name, date of birth, address, educational qualification and examination center preference. After this, upload passport size photo, signature and required documents (eg category certificate or disability certificate). Now pay the application fee through online. Then after checking all the details, submit the application form.
