Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that all schools falling in Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division will remain closed on July 22 (Wednesday). The Jammu and Kashmir government has extended the summer holidays by three days in view of the warning of heavy rain from the Meteorological Department (IMD). Schools closed in Nainital also on 22nd July
According to reports, the Nainital district administration of Uttarakhand has ordered the closure of all government and private schools as well as Anganwadi centers in the district on 22 July 2026 (Wednesday). This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure in view of IMD’s warning of heavy rain, thunder and landslides. The administration has also appealed to the people to avoid traveling without essential work during bad weather.
Where will schools remain closed in Himachal Pradesh?
In Himachal Pradesh, on July 21, schools in Kangra, Mandi, Chamba and Sirmaur districts were kept closed due to the red alert issued by the IMD. However, till now orders for closure of schools have been issued only in Sirmaur district for 22 July 2026. At the same time, no order has been issued for other districts of the state to close schools on July 22. The state government has empowered all District Deputy Commissioners to declare holiday in schools if necessary keeping in mind the local weather conditions, heavy rains, flash floods and road safety.

Monsoon has become fully active in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert warning of lightning along with thunderstorms. In view of this, schools have been closed in Bahraich district. According to the order issued by District Basic Education Officer Ashish Kumar Singh on July 20, all the schools of classes 1 to 8 of all boards including council, aided/recognized, unfunded/non-government and madrassa in the district will remain closed on July 21 and 22. The order further states that if any school is found operating during this period, strict action will be taken against it. Apart from this, due to the warning of heavy rain by the Meteorological Department in Farrukhabad, holiday has been declared in schools up to class 8 on July 22.
