New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the police action against protesting students in Delhi on Monday and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologize on this matter.
Rahul Gandhi also told reporters in the Parliament complex that he would visit the injured students.
Earlier, he along with several opposition leaders met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and demanded a discussion in the House on issues related to students.
The Congress leader said, “We met the Lok Sabha Speaker and said that we want a discussion. On this, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that he will have to ask the government.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that students are being beaten up, but the Prime Minister has not yet apologized.
He said, “These youth are protesting against the education system and examination system. There is nothing wrong in what they are saying. We are also saying the same thing.
The Congress leader said that the Prime Minister should apologize to the students and stop using the police.
Reiterating the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Rahul Gandhi said that it was not Pradhan who beat up the students, but the Home Minister is responsible for it.
He said, “Dharmendra Pradhan must resign, but Pradhan has not beaten the students. The Home Minister has beaten him, he should resign.
Rahul Gandhi said that the opposition will continue to raise the issue of students in Parliament.
