The National Testing Agency (NTA) had canceled the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) after the paper leak scam came to light. In view of this, NEET re-examination is scheduled to be held on June 21 for more than 22 lakh candidates who appeared in the examination held on May 3. NTA has already clarified that no additional fee will be charged from the candidates for re-examination of NEET. Furthermore, NTA has announced that it will refund the fees already charged from these 22 lakh candidates. In other words, NTA is ready to refund the fees to the candidates of NEET UG 2026. The fee refund process for NEET UG 2026 candidates will be online; However, to avail the same, candidates will have to submit an application. Application process for fee refund will start from May 21
NTA has announced that it will refund the fees to the candidates of NEET UG 2026. As per the schedule announced earlier by NTA, the link to request fee refund will be activated from May 21. This means that candidates have to actively apply to get their fees back; NTA will not automatically refund the fees to any candidate without any formal application. As per available information, NTA is expected to activate the fee refund link by the evening or night of May 21. This link will be made available only on the official website of NEET UG.
How much are the fees charged?
Although NTA does not charge any specific “Examination Fee” for NEET UG, it does charge *Registration Fee* at the time of application submission. The registration fee varies depending on the caste category of the candidate. Let’s take a look at the amount of registration fee applicable. For General Candidates: ₹1,700
For OBC and EWS candidates: ₹1,600
For SC/ST candidates: ₹1,000
For Foreign Candidates: ₹9,500
It is mandatory to provide bank details while applying.
There is a special reason behind NTA opening the application window for NEET UG 2026 fee refund. Generally, there is no provision for refund of NEET UG registration fee. As a result, candidates are not asked for their bank account details during the registration process; Only payment of registration fee is accepted. For the first time, NTA will issue fee refund. Therefore, candidates need to enter their bank details while applying. Fee refund will be credited only to the bank account details given by the candidates.
When will the fee refund be credited?
NTA has announced the date for the start of the NEET UG 2026 fee refund process, but it has not yet announced any specific timeline as to when the refunded amount will be credited to the candidates’ accounts. NTA will upload this information on its website in due course of time.
