The Supreme Court has ordered to keep stray dogs separated in Delhi. The court says that such stray dogs cannot be allowed to roam openly on the streets, mohallas and streets, which can become a threat to anyone. There is a different opinion in the society regarding this order of the apex court. One class says that this decision of the Supreme Court is in the interest of the society. At the same time, dog lovers say that such a decision is not practical. Dogs cannot be separated from society and they have been partners of humans since ancient times. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi have also questioned the decision of the Supreme Court.
Not only this, many famous celebrities have also questioned the decision. Amidst this debate, Mahatma Gandhi’s opinion also becomes relevant in the world. He once allowed 60 such dogs to be killed, who had gone mad. When questions were raised on this, he also explained in detail why he took such a decision even after talking about non -violence. This incident is from 1926. 60 dogs went crazy in textile businessman Ambalal Sarabhai’s mill. They were threatened to people and Sarabhai ordered him to kill him.
When people questioned this and the controversy started, Sarabhai thought it appropriate to take Mahatma Gandhi’s opinion. He went to Sabarmati Ashram to meet Mahatma Gandhi. When he told about his decision and his decision to kill the dogs, Mahatma Gandhi asked what else could be done. This opinion of Mahatma Gandhi was also questioned and people asked why Mahatma Gandhi, who talked about non -violence, agreed on it. Mahatma Gandhi again talked about this in detail and expressed his views through Young India newspaper.
What was the logic of Mahatma Gandhi’s less sin and more sin?
Mahatma Gandhi wrote, ‘There is no doubt that Hindu philosophy considers the killing of any creature as a sin. I think all sects will agree on this principle. The problem arises when it has to be brought into practice. We kill germs using pesticides. This is violence, but it is also a duty. ‘ Killing a mad dog is minimal violence. If someone lives in solitude in the forest, he will not do such violence nor is it needed. But if someone lives in the city, there will be contradiction in the principle of non -violence and duty. This is because the person living in the city has to protect himself and his dependents. If he kills the dog, it would be a sin and if he does not kill him, he will commit even more sin. Therefore, he will choose small sin so that he can avoid great sin.
What advice to society on stray dogs
Apart from this, Mahatma Gandhi also advised the society regarding stray dogs. He said that how kind any civilization is, it shows the status of animals living in it. If the dogs are wandering around, it shows that there is no sense of compassion towards all living beings in the society. He wrote, ‘The dog is a loyal companion. There are many examples of loyalty to dogs and horses. ‘ This means that we should keep them like our companions and respect them and they should not let them wander unnecessarily.
He said- It is a shame for the society to roam unclaimed dogs
Gandhiji said that keeping unclaimed dogs on the streets, saying that a human being should give a part of his income separate and give it to an institution taking care of the dogs. Gandhiji said- ‘If he cannot do this, then he should give up the worry of dogs and use his humanity in the service of other animals.’
