World Youth Skills Day: World Youth Skills Day is celebrated every year on 15 July. The United Nations (UN) started it in the year 2014. This day gives a message to governments, educational institutions and industries to increase investment in the skill development of youth.

History of World Youth Skills Day

The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on 18 December 2014 declaring 15 July as World Youth Skills Day. Its objective was to provide the youth with the necessary skills for employment, respectable work and entrepreneurship. This initiative was led by Sri Lanka, which received widespread support from the G77 countries.

Importance of World Youth Skills Day

This day strengthens the objective of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-4) i.e. inclusive and quality education for all. Experts believe that 84 lakh (8.4 million) new jobs can be created for the youth by the year 2030 through investment in green and blue economy. In such a situation, skill development is not only a medium of employment but also the foundation stone of a self-reliant and prosperous society.
