Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress was reduced to only 80 seats. Meanwhile, the name of Asansol South MLA Agnimitra Paul is also in discussion. According to Election Commission data, Agnimitra Paul has retained the Asansol South seat by defeating TMC candidate Tapas Banerjee by a huge margin of 40839 votes.

These faces in CM race

Subhendu Adhikari is being considered the strongest contender for the post of Chief Minister in BJP, but the discussion about giving preference to female faces is also gaining momentum within the party. Given the example of Delhi giving the post to a relatively lesser-known face like Rekha Gupta, Agnimitra Paul’s ‘woman leader’ image could make her a strong contender. Let us tell you that the Bengal elections of 2026 were held in two phases (23 and 29 April), in which a record 92.93% voting was recorded. The participation of women voters was more than that of men. In such a situation, it is possible that BJP can play women’s game in Bengal.
