Famous Punjabi actor Jaswinder Bhalla, known as Comedy King, died on Friday morning in a private hospital in Mohali. He was 65 years old.
Bhalla’s friend Bal Mukand Sharma said that Bhalla was admitted to the hospital after becoming ill two days ago. Sharma said that Bhalla was unwell for some time. His funeral will take place in Mohali on Saturday.
Popular comedians and character actor Bhalla were known for his roles in Punjabi films such as “Carrie On Jatta”, “Atmosphere Okay”, “Gaddi Jandi Eh Chalary Maradi”, “Jatt Airways” and “Jatt and Juliet 2”.
Many political leaders of various parties mourned his demise and remembered his contribution to public life.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote on X, “Jaswinder Bhalla ji’s sudden departure from this world is very sad. The mind is unhappy with the silence of the chopping of the scholars.
Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Waring also mourned Bhalla’s death.
Waring said on X, “The death of Jaswinder Bhalla ji was deeply sad. A glorious Punjabi voice, his contribution and love for the community will always be remembered. Heartfelt condolences to his family and fans.”
Punjabi actors and artists are deeply shocked by the news of his death.
Bhalla received a postgraduate degree in Science from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, where he also served as faculty members. He retired from the post of Professor and Head of the Department of Extension Education in 2020.
As an actor, Bhalla was known for his sarcastic comedy and attendance in Punjabi films. His role of lawyer Dhillon in the 2012 Gippy Grewal and Mahi Gill starring “Carrie on Jatta” became memorable.
His unmatched comic timing and unique catchfrays ruled the hearts of the audience. Bhalla’s son, Pukhraj Bhalla is also an actor and has acted in many Punjabi films.
