Famous Punjabi actor and 'Comedy King' Jaswinder Bhalla died at the age of 65

Famous Punjabi actor Jaswinder Bhalla, popularly known as Comedy King, passed away at a private hospital in Mohali on Friday morning. He was 65 years old.

Bhalla’s friend Bal Mukand Sharma said that Bhalla was admitted to the hospital after falling ill two days ago. Sharma said that Bhalla was unwell for some time. His funeral will take place in Mohali on Saturday.

Popular comedian and character actor Bhalla was known for his roles in Punjabi films such as “Carry On Jatta”, “Mahaul Theek Hai”, “Gaddi Jaandi Eh Challa Maadi”, “Jatt Airways” and “Jatt & Juliet 2”.

Many political leaders from different parties condoled his demise and remembered his contribution to public life.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote on Twitter, “The sudden departure of Jaswinder Bhalla ji from this world is very sad. The heart is saddened by the silence of the Chhankatiyaan chimes. May Waheguru give him a place at his feet. Chacha Chatra will always be in our hearts.”

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Waring also condoled Bhalla’s demise.

Punjabi actors and artists are deeply shocked by the news of his demise.

Bhalla received a Master of Science degree from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, where he also served as a faculty member. He retired as Professor and Head of the Department of Extension Education in 2020.

As an actor, Bhalla was known for his sarcastic comedy and wit in Punjabi films. His role as lawyer Dhillon in 2012’s “Carry on Jatta” starring Gippy Grewal and Mahie Gill became memorable.

His impeccable comic timing and unique catchphrases ruled the hearts of the audience. Bhalla’s son, Pukhraj Bhalla, is also an actor and has acted in several Punjabi films.
