Question: In the book Aparajita you talk about mythology and power on one hand. On the other hand, you associate this idea with the West. How and why do you do this?
Answer: We are living in a world which is a world of comparison. We understand the importance of something only when we compare it. We are not in such a world, where only Indian philosophy will be considered and philosophy of other countries will not be considered. I studied and found that Indianness has been portrayed wrong in some places. That’s why it is important to look at it from a relative term. I have told in Aparajita that India did not have to run the Devi movement like the western countries. There is already a concept of Shakti in our Puranas. When in the West there were male guards for women, then in India there were Indian goddesses for the gods as well.
Question: Talking about women empowerment, Meera was a very strong woman. How do you see Meera? He broke many practices and identified with art. How do you compare Meera with today’s woman?
Answer: I have a lot of respect for Meera. Meera denies the structure drawn by society for women. Meera was raising her voice against the restrictions of the society in medieval times. Presently the woman is tied up. It is expected that she will be seen in the role of a wife and mother. Meera refused both the roles. There Radha is the idol of love. He is also free from any title. Sita and Parvati are wife with girlfriend but Meera and Radha have only love. Title-free love is not easy.
Question: Shashank ji, do you think that there are people in the society even today, due to which women are not able to move forward? Are women still suppressed today?
Answer: Not everything changes in the society at once. Slowly things are changing. We are fortunate to live in a strong democracy, where we accept people. Right now there are restrictions and restrictions in some places but it is the beauty of Indian tradition and democracy that we can have our say. Women are also speaking out. The greatest power is the ability to ask questions. Women can ask questions today.
Question- Many times women reach the law about the atrocities committed on them, but later they back down. Shashank ji for what reason does she back down?
Answer: We associate these matters with the identity of the woman. While the one who is exploitative should hesitate, he should stop. There are many beliefs in the society, which have become knots. Women are also under pressure from home and society, but if a woman thinks that she should go to the law, then she cannot be suppressed.
Question: Manoj sir you have worked with women from both urban and rural environment. Do you think rural women do not know whom to complain or to whom? Do you think there is a lack of awareness?
Answer: We explain to the woman how to do self defense. What are the alternatives to the law, but more than that it is necessary to explain to men that they should understand their limits. It is very important to make men aware.
