Actor Dev Anand was unhappy with his fellow actor and director Manoj Kumar during the Emergency. The reason for this was that during the Emergency, Dev Anand stood alone in protest against the Indira Gandhi government. That too when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru knew him personally. Despite this, he strongly opposed injustice. Due to this protest, he also faced a lot of difficulties. But during this time actor Manoj Kumar was supporting Indira Gandhi.
He was not saying anything against the Emergency. Dev Anand did not expect such a responsible artist like Manoj Kumar. Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan formed a committee of seven people, in which Dev Anand was the only anarchical person. The same committee voted and selected Morarji Desai as the first non-Congress Prime Minister. It was the sociable behavior of Dev Saheb that from Jayaprakash Narayan to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, everyone was his admirer. Over time, all the grievances disappear. So there was no special estrangement between Dev Anand and Manoj Kumar. But it was definitely recorded in history that during the Emergency, Dev Anand was raising the voice of rights and Manoj Kumar was with power.
