When Dev Anand was unhappy with Manoj Kumar during emergency

During the Emergency, actor Dev Anand was unhappy with his fellow actor and director Manoj Kumar. The reason for this was that during the Emergency, Dev Anand stood alone against the Indira Gandhi government. That too when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru knew him personally. Despite this, he strongly opposed injustice. Due to this opposition he also had to face a lot of difficulties. But during this time actor Manoj Kumar was supporting Indira Gandhi.

He was not saying anything against Emergency. Dev Anand did not expect this from a responsible artist like Manoj Kumar. Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan had constituted a committee of seven people, in which Dev Anand was the only apolitical person. The same committee voted and elected Morarji Desai as the first non-Congress Prime Minister. It was Dev Saheb’s sociable behavior that everyone from Jaiprakash Narayan to Atal Bihari Vajpayee was his admirer. With time all grievances fade away. So there was no special rift between Dev Anand and Manoj Kumar. But it has definitely been recorded in history that during the Emergency, Dev Anand was raising the voice of rights and Manoj Kumar was with the government.
