Sharmila Tagore Birthday celebrated her 77th birthday on Wednesday. Sharmila, who ruled the silver screen in Bengali and Hindi cinema during the 60s, 70s and 80s, has many interesting stories from her days. We are going to tell you two stories from them. Sharmila Tagore once had to travel in a car with closed windows and no air condition for the sake of her co-actor. This actor was none other than Rajkumar ji. Bollywood superstar Rajkumar had made a tremendous identity in Hindi cinema with his films and his style. Rajkumar made his debut in the world of cinema with the film ‘Rangeli’ and after that he also appeared in many hit films. He often used to wear a wig for his hairstyle. But for this wig, Bollywood’s famous actress Sharmila Tagore had to pay a big price.
In the year 1965, Sharmila worked with Raj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Balraj Sahni, Sadhna and Sunil Dutt in Yash Chopra’s film Waqt. And some scenes of the film were to be shot in Nainital. Sharmila had to go by car, however during this time neither she could open the car window nor could she turn on the AC. This anecdote was told by Sharmila Tagore in an interview to The Telegraph.
Sharmila Tagore had said in the interview, “I remember going to Nainital, driving with Raj Kumar and he used to wear a wig. That’s why he had tied a handkerchief around his head, due to which we could not lower the window glass. There was no air conditioning in those days. So we had to suffer because of his hair and there was a fear that his wig might come off.”

Another incident was also mentioned by Sharmila Tagore in the same interview. He had to drive a car with Shashi Kapoor during a scene. However, there was a change in planning. He said, “I also had to drive a car and I could not know how to drive a car. So we had to fake those shots. Shashi used to be very nervous about this. During the shoot, he (Shashi Kapoor) told me – you know I have three kids, drive the car carefully.”
Let us tell you that these days Sharmila lives in Pataudi Palace, Gurugram. And her granddaughter’s film Atrangi is all set to rock the theaters these days. Also his grandson Ibrahim Ali Khan is working as an assistant director in Karan Johar’s upcoming film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani to learn the nuances of filmmaking.
