New Delhi, July 27 (IANS). In today’s busy lifestyle, bad posture and stressful environment, achieving stability of body and mind is a big challenge. In such a situation, ‘Setu Bandha Sarvangasana’ acts like a lifesaver.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (Bridge Pose) is a powerful yoga asana that opens the chest, strengthens the back and calms the mind. It got this name because of its composition and positive effects on the body.
Regular practice of this asana helps in reducing back pain and lower back stiffness. It stimulates the thyroid gland, thereby improving hormonal balance. Additionally, it also helps in reducing stress and depression. Apart from this, it improves the digestive system and also maintains proper blood circulation flow. It is also effective in reducing problems related to periods in women.
To do this, first lie down on your back. Place your hands on either side of the body, palms facing down. Now bend both the legs at the knees and bring the feet near the hips, so that the feet remain flat on the ground. While breathing in, slowly lift your hips, waist and lower back upward. You can move your shoulders a little further inwards by interlocking your fingers on the ground. If you want, you can also hold the ankles with your hands.
In this position, try to touch the chin to the chest. All your weight should be on your shoulders, arms and legs. Keep breathing normally and stay in this position for 30 to 60 seconds. While exhaling, slowly bring your waist and back back to the ground.
If you have any serious injury or problem in your neck or back, avoid doing this asana.
