New Delhi, January 19 (IANS). Banana is a fruit eaten daily in every household. It is sweet, nutritious and gives instant energy, but after eating banana, most of the people throw its peel in the garbage without thinking. Now scientific studies have proved that this peel is not useless but is very useful for health.
Like banana, many such natural compounds are found in its peel, which makes the body strong and healthy from inside. According to information from the American National Library of Medicine, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties are present in banana peel. These elements remove toxic substances accumulated in the body and protect cells from damage. This increases immunity and keeps many diseases away.
Research has revealed that the peel contains an effective antioxidant called gallocatechin. This element detoxifies the body and increases the ability to fight diseases. Interestingly, the peel contains more antioxidants than the banana pulp. Its peel contains important compounds like flavonoids, tannins and saponins. These combat harmful particles called free radicals.
Free radicals damage the body cells and cause diseases like cancer, heart disease and premature aging. Additionally, the peel has strong antibacterial power. It is capable of destroying dangerous bacteria like E.coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus. These bacteria cause stomach pain, diarrhea, fever and infection. Additionally, it is also effective against the bacteria that cause teeth and gum infections.
Elements like gallic acid, ferulic acid and catechins in the peel also fight fungus (fungal infection). It was also observed in some research that the natural color made from the peel also retains antibacterial properties. In such a situation, experts advise that the peel can be washed thoroughly and used, such as in smoothies, tea, baking, or even in homemade face masks. If there is any allergy then consult a doctor first.
