New Delhi, February 1 (IANS). It is common to have rice in people’s plates in India, because it has been an important part of the diet of the people here for years. In many states, people prefer to eat rice or rice products both at the beginning and end of the day. Generally people eat white rice or brown rice, but some people are confused about which rice will be better for their health.
Actually, the difference between white rice and brown rice is processing. Brown rice is unpolished rice, that is, its upper layers are not removed. Due to this, more nutrients are present in them. Whereas white rice is polished and its outer layers are removed. This makes it white and soft, but a large amount of nutrition is lost.
Brown rice is rich in fiber, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamin B. The fiber present in it strengthens the digestive system and helps in weight loss. Additionally, brown rice increases blood sugar slowly, making it a better option for diabetic patients. It also helps in controlling cholesterol. If you want to control sugar or lose weight, it may be better to include brown rice in your diet.
White rice is digested quickly and has a mild taste, so it is suitable for people who have weak digestion or need quick energy. But keep in mind, it can increase blood sugar quickly and the nutritional content is less than that of brown rice.
However, like everything else, brown rice is not right for everyone. It contains phytates, which can block the absorption of some minerals. People who have problems with gas, acidity or constipation, its fiber content may bother them.
