New Delhi, March 8 (IANS). Our eyes are an important part of the body. Nowadays people spend hours on mobile, laptop and TV screens and with the change in weather, dust, smoke and pollution also affect the eyes. All these together can cause problems like itching and burning in the eyes. Often people ignore it considering it minor but experts say that if timely attention is not given then these problems can become serious.
Itching and irritation in the eyes is the most common problem. The reason for this could be changing weather, allergy, eye infection or habits like watching the screen for a long time. Dust, smoke and pollution also affect the delicate layer of the eyes and cause irritation or redness. In the beginning, this problem may seem mild and can be cured with common remedies, but if there is no relief for a few days, then ignoring it can be dangerous.
The most common causes for eye irritation and itching are allergies and infections. Due to allergy, eyes become red, itchy and watery. At the same time, due to infection, there may be pain, irritation and swelling in the eyes. Initially, washing the eyes with cold and clean water is the simplest and safest solution. Also, any eye drops should be used only after consulting a doctor.
To maintain eye health, drinking enough water daily, eating a balanced diet and eating foods rich in Vitamin A and Omega‑3 fatty acids helps in maintaining eyesight.
It is also very important to pay attention to cleanliness. Always keep hands and face clean and avoid touching the eyes again and again. Wear glasses in polluted and dusty places. In case of itching in the eyes, one should not rub vigorously as this can cause damage to the cornea and increase infection. Using home remedies like rose water or other liquids without advice can be dangerous.
If mild measures do not provide relief in 2-3 days, one should immediately get checked by an eye specialist. Use of steroid eye drops without doctor’s advice can cause serious harm. With timely diagnosis and proper care, small problems do not become serious and eyesight remains safe.
