New Delhi, February 23 (IANS). Today’s irregular daily routine is making the body sick. In such a situation, body and mind can be kept healthy through yoga. Experts recommend daily practice of one such very effective asana, whose name is Chakki Chalanasana.

According to Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), Chakki Chalanasana Mill Churning Pose or Chakki Chalanasana is a simple yet extremely effective yoga asana. This asana mimics the action of running a traditional mill (which grinds grains) and benefits many parts of the body.

Experts at MDNIY say that with regular practice, this asana not only improves physical health but also provides mental peace. With its regular practice it strengthens the stomach, waist, back and pelvic area and provides relief from many health problems.

For Chakki Chalanasana, first of all sit in Dandasana posture with straight legs spread on the ground. Open both the legs slightly and create space between the legs. After this, extend both the hands forward, interlock the fingers. Keeping the back straight, rotate the upper body in circles, as if a mill is running – from right to left and then from left to right. During this, keep breathing normal, rotate for 10-20 rounds in one direction, then in the opposite direction. Start with 1-2 minutes in the beginning, increase gradually.

Practicing Chakki Chalanasana provides many benefits. It reduces belly fat and tones the muscles, is helpful in reducing excess belly fat and gives relief to the intestines from gas, constipation and indigestion. Strengthens the back and waist, which prevents sciatica.

This is especially beneficial for women. It strengthens the muscles of the uterus, which makes periods regular, reduces pain, helpful in removing the problem of PCOD/PCOS, and is also useful in reducing excess weight after delivery. Additionally, blood flow increases throughout the body, stress is reduced and core muscles are strengthened.

However, it is also important to take some precautions. If you are pregnant then definitely consult a doctor. Do not do if you have severe back pain, slipped disc, spinal problems or recent surgery. If you feel severe pain in your legs or back while doing the asana, ignore it. Do it slowly in the beginning, do not apply too much force.
