Bijapur, October 24 (IANS). Five people died after consuming contaminated food in Bijapur and Abujmad area of Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh. At the same time, the health of many other villagers has deteriorated.
This tragic incident came to light on the morning of October 21, when villagers suddenly started complaining of vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain. As soon as the information about the worsening condition of the villagers was received, the District Magistrate and senior officials including the Health Department reached the spot.
The team immediately reached the spot and set up a health camp for the affected people and started treatment. Critically ill villagers have been sent to Narayanpur District Hospital for further treatment.
During investigation, preliminary information emerged that the villagers had possibly consumed contaminated food. The department has taken samples of contaminated food items and sent them to the laboratory for testing. Also, the health team is sensitizing the villagers in the villages to consume clean food and boiled drinking water.
The impact of this incident has also been seen in Bhairamgarh area of neighboring Bijapur district, where similar symptoms were found in some villagers of Uspari and Kiskal villages. One victim, Pallavi Parsa, has been admitted to Bhairamgarh Hospital and her condition is said to be out of danger. The administration has issued high alert in both the districts.
Collector Narayanpur has ordered a detailed investigation into this entire matter and has asked to submit the report soon. A team has been formed for this.
The Health Department said that medical teams will be continuously deployed in the affected villages for the next few days to control the situation and prevent the spread of the disease.
The administration has appealed to the villagers to consume food and water only after boiling it, and not to ignore any unusual symptoms and immediately contact the nearest health center. Health department officials will be in constant touch with the villagers. In case of any problem, they can meet the administration anytime.
