New Delhi, May 16 (IANS). Chironji, which enhances the taste of sweets, halwa and dry fruits, is not only delicious but is also very beneficial for health. Chironji, full of medicinal properties, has a special place in Ayurveda. It is considered effective in removing problems ranging from skin to digestion.

The Environment, Forest and Climate Department of the Government of Bihar makes people aware of this valuable tree and its properties. The department says that recognize Chironji, use it and also contribute to its conservation. Chironji is a medium-sized deciduous tree, which can grow up to about 15 meters tall. Its bark is dark gray in color, which looks like crocodile skin. The inner part of the bark is red in color, due to which it can be easily identified.

Its seeds taste like almonds and are liked as dry fruits. Chironji is used in Indian sweets to enhance both taste and texture. It is definitely included in halwa, laddu, kheer, ice cream and many traditional sweets. Apart from taste, it is also nutritious and is counted in the category of dry fruits.

If we look at the medicinal properties of Chironji, Chironji has been given special importance in Ayurveda. Its roots are astringent and cold in nature, which are considered useful in providing relief from diarrhea and digestive problems. Chironji is also effective in treating various skin related diseases. With its regular consumption the skin remains healthy and glowing. This tree is not only economically beneficial but is also important for the environment.

The Bihar government is appealing to the people to identify, protect and participate in the conservation of Chironji trees growing around them.
