New Delhi, October 30 (IANS). Coriander is an important part of Indian kitchen which is often seen as a spice in our kitchen, but do you know that coriander not only works to enhance taste, but it is also a wonderful medicine?

In Ayurveda, it is considered as Tridoshahar, which helps in balancing all three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Coriander has cooling and detoxifying properties, which provide coolness to the body. It is extremely beneficial for digestion, skin, heart and even mental peace.

Both coriander seeds and leaves work as medicines. If you have stomach problems, like gas, burning sensation or indigestion, consuming coriander can provide instant relief. Soaking one spoon coriander seeds at night and filtering the water in the morning and drinking it makes the stomach feel light and cool. At the same time, coriander is also very beneficial for burning sensation in the bladder. Boiling two spoons of coriander seeds and drinking its water provides relief from burning sensation and pain.

Coriander removes excess heat from the body and balances Pitta dosha. If you have problem of body heat or headache, drinking coriander water daily provides relief. It also works as a medicine for women. Consumption of coriander water is beneficial in problems like swelling of the uterus.

Apart from this, coriander controls blood sugar and is also good for heart health. It increases good cholesterol by reducing bad cholesterol.

Coriander is also very beneficial for the skin, because it has anti-oxidant and anti-septic properties which reduce acne and blemishes. Consumption of coriander provides relief from headache and stress and it also protects the body from infections.
