New Delhi, May 3 (IANS). If mild symptoms are not taken care of, they can turn into serious diseases. In such a situation, health experts warn not to take persistent cough lightly. This can be a major symptom of tuberculosis i.e. TB.
The National Health Mission (NHM) has warned people not to take cough or persistent weight loss lightly for two weeks. These can be the main symptoms of tuberculosis i.e. TB. TB is an infectious disease caused by bacteria and can be fatal if not treated timely. NHM says that small symptoms like frequent cough and weight loss without any reason can be a warning of big danger.
According to the mission, if you are coughing continuously for more than two weeks, cough with blood i.e. hemoptysis, chest pain, weight loss without any reason, loss of appetite, high fever in the evening, sweating at night, constant feeling of fatigue and swelling in the neck, then get yourself checked by a doctor immediately.
These symptoms may be of TB. TB mainly affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body like neck, bone, brain etc. Health experts say that TB can be completely cured with timely diagnosis and regular treatment. The government provides free tests and medicines. If symptoms appear, go to the nearest government health center or TB clinic and get tested.
TB spreads through air. The bacteria can spread in the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks. Therefore, when symptoms appear, it is very important to isolate yourself from others and start medication on time. NHM is appealing to people not to ignore the symptoms. With awareness and timely treatment, TB can be eradicated.
To prevent TB, precautions should be taken like maintaining cleanliness, eating good and nutritious food, using masks in crowded places, getting tested immediately if symptoms appear. Both prevention and treatment of TB are possible. A small precaution can save you from a big problem.
