New Delhi, December 5 (IANS). Many such spices will be found in Indian kitchen. The name of one of these spices is cumin. In Ayurveda, cumin, which is rich in medicinal properties, is considered an invaluable companion of health.

The Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India states that cumin kept in the kitchen not only enhances the taste of food but is also very beneficial for health. It has been used in Ayurveda for centuries to treat many diseases.

Iron, calcium, magnesium and antioxidants are found in abundance in cumin. Not just one but many medicinal properties are found in it. Cumin strengthens the digestive system. It provides relief by removing the problems of stomach gas, indigestion, loss of appetite and constipation.

Cumin water strengthens the digestive system. Vitamin C and anti-oxidants present in it increase the body’s immunity. Cumin accelerates metabolism and is helpful in reducing fat. It also provides relief from cough and cold. Eating roasted cumin and jaggery mixed with it clears the throat and provides relief from cough.

Cumin also has special importance for women. Cumin water is very beneficial in pain and irregularities in periods. Chewing cumin eliminates bad breath and keeps teeth strong. It is also effective in removing the problem of anemia. Having more iron helps in eliminating anemia.

Cumin, a small spice present in the kitchen of every house in India, is actually a complete medicine house. Drinking one spoon of roasted cumin or cumin water daily keeps many small and big problems away. However, advice from an Ayurvedacharya must be taken before consumption.
