New Delhi, October 12 (IANS). Curd, which is used daily in our kitchen, is beneficial for health in many ways. However, the body gets the benefits of curd only when it is consumed at the right time, in the right quantity and in the right way. Both Ayurveda and modern science agree that if some important rules regarding curd are followed then it is like nectar for health, otherwise curd can also harm the body.
According to Ayurveda, curd is cooling in nature, that is, it brings coolness to the body. For this reason, eating it during the day, especially in the afternoon, is considered most beneficial. Our digestion is at its best in the afternoon and the body easily absorbs the nutrients of curd. Eating curd at this time cools the stomach, improves digestion and also provides energy to the body. The probiotics present in it improve intestinal health, thereby eliminating problems like constipation and indigestion. If you add some roasted cumin seeds to curd, its effect is even better. It not only enhances the taste but also provides relief from problems like gas and indigestion.
If you make a habit of taking curd in your meal once a day, it can provide relief from many types of problems in the body. It keeps the body cool, strengthens bones and also benefits the skin. Even curd when applied to hair helps in reducing dandruff. At the same time, calcium and protein present in curd make bones and teeth strong. Besides, it is also helpful in reducing weight, as it keeps the stomach full for a long time and prevents overeating.
But there are some important precautions regarding curd, ignoring which can prove costly. First of all, curd should not be eaten at night. The reason for this is that the body temperature decreases at night and the cold effect of curd can increase phlegm in the body. This can cause problems like cold, cough and sinus. Especially in cold weather or if someone already has breathing problems or cold, then he should avoid curd at night.
