New Delhi, May 16 (IANS). In this scorching heat of May, the most eaten thing in India is melon and watermelon. They cool the body and prevent dehydration, but eating these fruits with wrong things can cause harm instead of benefits.
In Ayurveda, some things have been called ‘Viridhu Aahar’, that is, such things which when eaten together can spoil the digestion. Milk, curd or other dairy products should not be consumed with watermelon or melon. Doing this can slow down the digestion process and cause problems like gas, heaviness or stomach pain.
Similarly, eating fried foods along with watery fruits is also considered harmful. In summer, the body is already hot and if heavy and oily food is eaten at such a time, the problems of indigestion, acidity and stomach burning can increase.
One should also avoid eating watermelon and melon with heavy meals or excessive grains. This puts extra pressure on the digestive system and can cause a feeling of lethargy, heaviness and discomfort in the body.
Apart from this, consumption of these fruits with very cold drinks or iced drinks is also not considered right. This can affect the natural processes of the intestines and cause problems like diarrhea or stomach pain. According to Ayurveda, it is always better to eat water-rich fruits like watermelon or melon either alone or with fruits of similar nature. Due to this, the body gets proper nutrition and digestion also remains good.
If you do not like watermelon or melon or cannot eat it for some reason, then in the summer season, things like coconut water, wood apple juice, lemon water and buttermilk help in cooling the body. Besides, adequate rest and balanced diet is also important.
