New Delhi, May 26 (IANS). Yoga is not only a medium to keep the body healthy but also an ancient art of balancing the mind and soul. One of these asanas of yoga is Uttamandukasana, which not only increases flexibility in the body but also provides mental peace.
Composed of two Sanskrit words, ‘uttan’ (stretched) and ‘manduka’ (frog), the final posture of this asana makes the body appear like a frog. Regular practice of this asana keeps the spine strong and flexible, which prevents back and waist pain. The muscles of the shoulders and neck are stretched, which reduces stiffness and provides relief from problems like cervical spondylosis.
The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has also given its opinion regarding its practice. According to him, Uttamandukasana (Rising Frog Pose) is an important yoga asana. This asana is especially beneficial for the health of the back, shoulders and lungs. Besides, it also has a profound effect on the digestive system. By applying light pressure on the abdominal organs, the digestive process gets activated, which can provide relief in problems like gas and indigestion.
In today’s irregular lifestyle where people remain in the same posture for hours, this asana helps in healing the muscles, increasing blood circulation and reducing stress.
According to yoga experts, to practice this asana, first sit in Vajrasana. After this, bend both the hands at the elbows and take them behind the back. Keep the spine straight, look forward and continue breathing normally. Stay in this position for 20 to 30 seconds, then slowly return to normal position. In the beginning this should be done 2 to 3 times, then gradually increase the time.
People suffering from severe back pain or slipped disc, severe knee pain (arthritis) or ankle problems, abdominal surgery or migraine should also not practice this.
