New Delhi, March 3 (IANS). Myths have been spreading in the society for a long time regarding the question of whether one should do yoga during menstruation or not. Many people believe that doing exercise or yoga during this period causes harm to the body, but according to health experts and the National Health Mission, this is not at all the case.

According to the National Health Mission, light yoga and exercise prove helpful in reducing pain, fatigue and mood swings during periods. It is a natural and safe way to stay healthy.

The most common myth is that one should not do yoga or any physical activity during periods, but some easy yoga asanas relax the body and reduce the problems associated with periods. Heavy exercise should be avoided.

Light yoga during periods not only reduces pain but also makes women physically and mentally strong. Experts recommend doing asanas like Balasana, Supta Baddha Konasana, Viparita Karani, Marjariasana and Shavasana during periods. Do these asanas slowly and as per your capacity. If there is excessive pain or excessive bleeding, consult a doctor or yoga expert.

There are many benefits of doing yoga during periods. It gives relief from cramps and stomach pain. Yoga relaxes the muscles of the stomach and back, which reduces cramps and pain significantly. The body gets relaxed, light stretching and breathing exercises reduce stress in the body and remove fatigue. Along with this, stress and irritability reduces. Mood swings and anger are common due to hormonal changes during periods. Yoga keeps the mind calm and irritability reduces.

Back and waist pain improves. Many women complain of back pain during periods. Some yoga asanas reduce this pain to a great extent. Along with this, it is helpful in improving overall health. Regular light yoga improves blood circulation, improves digestion and gives energy to the body.
