New Delhi, April 21 (IANS). In today’s busy life, the problem of high blood pressure (hypertension) has started increasing due to bad lifestyle, anger over small things or stress. Many times its symptoms are not clearly visible, hence it is also called silent killer. It can be controlled to a great extent by adopting the right lifestyle and changing some habits.
If you are overweight or eat too much salt, smoke or consume alcohol or there is no physical activity in your daily routine, then the risk of increasing BP increases. Apart from this, being under constant stress is also a big reason. In many people this problem is also related to family.
Often the initial symptoms of high BP are very mild, such as early morning headache, dizziness, nervousness, rapid heartbeat or sometimes nose bleeding. If these symptoms appear again and again, do not ignore them and get your BP checked immediately.
Yoga and right diet can help you the most in this. Yoga calms not only the body but also the mind. Doing yoga for 20-30 minutes daily reduces stress and also keeps BP under control. Some easy yoga asanas like Tadasana, Bhujangasana, Shashankasana and Shavasana are considered very beneficial. Along with this, doing pranayam like Anulom-Vilom (Nadi Shodhan), Bhramari and Shitali calms the mind and keeps the heartbeat normal. The effect of yoga is gradual but lasts for a long time.
Now let’s talk about diet. If you want to control BP, then first reduce the amount of salt. Too much salt directly increases blood pressure. Apart from this, stay away from fried and oily foods. Be sure to include green vegetables and fruits in your plate. Food items like bottle gourd, bitter gourd, cucumber, carrot, amla are very beneficial. Grains like barley, sorghum and wheat are also good choices. Also, buttermilk and light food are easy to digest and keep the body light. Along with this, drink adequate amount of water and reduce caffeine (tea-coffee) intake.
Even small changes in lifestyle have a big impact. Like brisk walk daily, sleeping on time, avoiding staying awake till late night and keeping yourself mentally relaxed. Try to take some time out for yourself during the day and meditate, listen to music or do any of your favorite things.
