New Delhi, January 10 (IANS). Our skin keeps changing from childhood to old age. The way you see yourself in the mirror today is neither the way you looked before nor will you look like in the future. Our skin also changes with age, but do you know that every 27 to 30 days your skin completely renews itself?
According to Ayurveda, our skin works so intelligently that it becomes completely new almost every 27 to 30 days. In scientific language this is called epidermal turnover cycle. This means that what you see in your skin today will not be exactly the same tomorrow.
Skin has been given great importance in Ayurveda also. It is not only considered a thing of beauty, but it is the biggest shield of our body. The harmful rays of the sun, dust, bacteria and chemicals cannot reach our body after hitting our skin. The cells called melanocytes present in it produce melanin, which protects from the sun’s rays.
Your skin is not just for looks, it also protects your health. Sweat glands secrete 1 to 2 liters of sweat every day. It keeps the body cool and also cleans it from inside, hence habits like yoga, exercise are beneficial not only for the body but also for the skin.
Night time is very special for the skin. Your skin regenerates itself at night after a day of dust, stress and sun rays. New collagen and elastin are formed, that is why it is said that good sleep is very important for good skin.
Diet also has a lot of impact. Foods rich in Vitamin A, C, E and Zinc like amla, carrot, papaya, almond and basil nourish the skin from within. For this reason, it has been called a skin medicine in Ayurveda.
Stress, smoking and lack of sleep can affect your skin’s cell memory. This means that your skin remembers all this and can show it later in the form of wrinkles, dryness or blemishes.
