Gandhinagar, July 22 (IANS). The Gujarat government has taken a big step towards making the state drug free. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the government has given administrative approval of Rs 14.90 crore for the financial year 2026-27. With this amount, de-addiction centers with 15 beds each will be established in all 34 district hospitals of the state.
According to the state government, the aim of this initiative is to provide better treatment and rehabilitation facilities to the people suffering from drug addiction in their own district, so that they do not have to go to big cities for treatment.
Facilities like scientific detoxification, de-addiction treatment, counselling, mental health services, family counseling and rehabilitation will be available in these centers to be built in every district hospital.
Both OPD and IPD services will be provided in these centres. The government said that here a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, counselors, psychologists and other trained experts will provide integrated and holistic health services to the patients.
The government says that through these centres, people suffering from drug addiction will get not only medical treatment but also mental and social support. This will reduce the financial and emotional burden on the patients as well as their families.
To ensure transparency, all necessary equipment will be procured through the Government e-Marketplace portal. Apart from this, regular monitoring, social audit and third party verification of the entire project will also be done.
Government officials said that in the last few years, the state government has paid special attention to the rehabilitation of people affected by drug addiction along with taking strict action against the illegal drug trade. Now, with the establishment of de-addiction centers in all the district hospitals, this campaign will be further strengthened.
According to officials, timely treatment, effective counseling and better rehabilitation facilities will give a new life to people suffering from drug addiction. This initiative will also strengthen the government’s broader goal of making Gujarat a ‘drug free state’.
