New Delhi, December 18 (IANS). Do you also have dry mouth and feel thirsty again and again? So this can be a symptom of serious diseases. Often people ignore this big sign, considering it to be thirst, dehydration or change in weather. But this is not a simple problem. In Ayurveda it is called mukha atrophy, which is dangerous. Ayurveda has the solution for this.
Ayurveda states that facial atrophy can be a sign of vata-pitta imbalance, agni dosha and rasa dhatu deficiency. Saliva plays an important role in keeping the mouth wet as well as in digesting food, protecting teeth and preventing infection. In such a situation, its less or no production can have negative effects on every part of the body, from digestion to digestion.
Increase of Vata Dosha leads to dryness, Pitta Dosha leads to burning sensation, Agni imbalance leads to weak digestion and Oja depletion leads to lack of immunity. In Charak Samhita it has been linked to depletion of Rasa Dhatu, which further causes fatigue, constipation, bad breath, hoarseness and infection. Its symptoms include frequent desire to drink water, dryness of lips and tongue, loss of taste, bad breath and hoarseness while speaking.
At the same time, medical science believes that the main reasons for dry mouth are lack of water in the body, consumption of excess tea-coffee, tobacco or alcohol, stress-anxiety, lack of sleep, prolonged use of some medicines and drinking less water in winter. Due to lack of saliva, bacteria in the mouth grow rapidly. Under stress, the sympathetic nerve suppresses the salivary glands. Breathing through the mouth causes saliva to dry quickly. Dry mouth at night can be a sign of diabetes or sleep apnea. Some medicines (allergy, blood pressure, anti-depressants) reduce saliva. Whiteness on the tongue is also its symptom.
Ayurveda gives suggestions to deal with this problem. Consuming half a teaspoon of desi ghee with lukewarm water on an empty stomach in the morning nourishes the Rasa Dhatu. Suck liquorice powder with half a spoon of honey, it increases saliva. Swish 1 teaspoon oil in the mouth for 5-7 minutes, it activates the salivary glands.
Consuming 25 to 30 ml of Amla juice daily calms the bile. Soak fennel and coriander overnight and drink it in the morning, this water reduces internal dryness. Nasya Karma or putting 2 drops of cow’s ghee in the nose in the morning is beneficial. Additionally, include cool foods like milk, coconut water, raisins and cucumber. This balances vata and pitta.
Ayurvedacharya believes that dry mouth should not be ignored, as it can be an early sign of hidden diseases. It can be easily controlled by adopting Ayurvedic remedies. However, if you do not get relief, you should consult a doctor.
