Early symptoms of kidney cancer: Do not ignore blood in urine, doctor told warning signs

It is not common to have blood in urine. It could also be a sign of infection or kidney stones. But can this also be a symptom of kidney cancer? According to doctors, blood in urine is not always a sign of cancer, but ignoring it can be dangerous.

Dr. Deepak Kumar Suman, Senior Resident of Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, says that people take urine related problems lightly. Even if patients notice symptoms, they ignore them considering them normal. Symptoms like bad smell in urine and burning sensation while urinating are often ignored. But blood in urine is a sign that should never be ignored.

When can blood in urine be a symptom of cancer?

Dr. Deepak says that blood in urine is not the only sign of kidney cancer. If there are other symptoms and persist for a long time, it may be a sign of cancer. For example, if you have frequent blood in the urine, pain, weight loss, or severe pain on one side of your back, you should get tested immediately. Even if it is cancer, it can be detected in the early stages.

How is the test done?
Usually a urine test or ultrasound is done. In some cases, cystoscopy is also performed. However, this is recommended only for patients with severe symptoms. Dr. Deepak says that if blood remains in your urine for a day, it is fine. However, if it persists for more than two days, it is important to immediately consult a doctor.
