New Delhi, February 15 (IANS). Today, bread is an important part of breakfast in many homes. Be it preparing a lunch box for going to office or children’s school tiffin, bread has made its place everywhere. Many people believe that bread has low carbs, so it can be eaten daily, but both Ayurveda and science say that eating only bread on an empty stomach can be harmful for the body.
The first effect of eating bread on an empty stomach is on the sugar level. Bread contains mostly carbohydrates, which are quickly digested and converted into sugar. If you eat it on an empty stomach, your blood sugar may increase suddenly. This can be dangerous for people who are at risk of diabetes.
In Ayurveda, it is believed that eating things that increase sugar early in the morning can cause imbalance in bile and phlegm, due to which the body feels weak and tired.
It lacks vitamins and fiber. Bread is often made from white flour, which has very little essential nutrients such as vitamin E, minerals and fiber. These nutrients are essential for stomach cleansing, blood purification and metabolism. If bread is eaten daily, bad cholesterol in the body can increase and the risk of heart problems also increases.
Bread increases the problem of weight and constipation. Eating bread on an empty stomach does not make one feel full, but carbs start converting into fat in the body. Apart from this, due to lack of fiber in bread, digestion slows down, which leads to constipation. Due to problems in digestion, metabolic rate also gradually decreases and weight starts increasing.
Apart from these, eating bread on an empty stomach leads to unbalanced energy. After eating bread, one gets quick energy, but it does not last long, due to which one feels hungry quickly. According to Ayurveda, morning breakfast strengthens the Agni i.e. digestive power of the body. If bread is eaten on an empty stomach, this Agni becomes weak and there is problem of indigestion and heaviness in the body.
