New Delhi, May 10 (IANS). Due to changing lifestyle, wrong eating habits and increasing stress, liver related diseases are increasing rapidly. This problem is no longer limited to only elderly people, but youth and children are also falling prey to it. There are no obvious symptoms in its early stages, so doctors recommend including liver function tests in regular health checkups. If liver problems are caught early, their treatment can be quite easy.
Our body starts giving signals about the condition of the liver in advance. The most important signal among these is related to the eyes. If the white part of the eyes starts appearing yellow, it may not be a sign of normal fatigue, but an increase in a substance called bilirubin in the body. According to medical science, bilirubin is formed when red blood cells break down and in normal condition the liver filters it and removes it from the body but when the liver does not function properly, this substance starts accumulating in the body and yellowness first appears in the eyes.
Doctors say that sometimes this change seen in the eyes can be a sign of problems like jaundice, hepatitis, fatty liver or liver infection. If along with this the skin color becomes yellow, the urine starts becoming dark yellow and you feel constant weakness, then it should not be ignored at all and you should immediately get yourself checked by a doctor.
Right lifestyle plays an important role in keeping the liver healthy. A balanced diet such as green vegetables, fruits, whole grains and protein-rich foods helps keep the liver strong, while excessive consumption of fried foods, sugar, processed foods and alcohol puts additional pressure on the liver, increasing the risk of fatty liver and serious diseases.
Controlling body weight is also important for liver health, because obesity is considered the main cause of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Hepatitis A and B vaccines are also considered effective in preventing liver infection. Regular exercise and drinking enough water also helps maintain liver function.
Apart from this, dryness in the eyes, swelling or change in the color of the surrounding skin can also be a sign of liver related problems.
