New Delhi, November 16 (IANS). Fennel is used as a spice in the home kitchen, which enhances the taste of vegetables with its mild sweet quality.
In Ayurveda, the small looking simple fennel is considered a medicine, which works to balance both mind and body. Fennel works like a medicine for lactating mothers, which increases milk production in a natural way.
Fennel has a cooling effect and its taste is slightly sweet. Fennel is beneficial in stomach related disorders due to its cooling properties. For centuries, it has been recommended in homes to eat fennel and sugar candy after meals, because fennel balances the digestive fire of the stomach and provides relief from the problems of ulcers, constipation and flatulence. Therefore, it is always beneficial to consume fennel after meals. Apart from sugar candy with fennel, it is also good to take ground cardamom. Take a mixture of fennel and cardamom with lukewarm water some time after eating food. This increases the digestive power of the stomach.
If there is bad smell from the mouth or phlegm keeps coming out, then a decoction should be made by boiling two spoons of fennel in water. Gargle with this twice a day and do it regularly for 1 week. This will remove bad breath and also eliminate bacteria from the throat. If the internal heat of the body has increased and heat rash or nervousness is troubling you, then boil fennel in water and consume it with some black salt and sugar. This reduces the internal heat of the body. This problem is seen more in women during menstruation.
Children suffer more from stomach pain due to wrong eating habits. In such a situation, if fennel and sugar candy are boiled, cooled and sherbet is made and given to children two-three times a day, then the stomach ache will gradually get relief. The problem of obesity is increasing in India. The government also keeps motivating people to fight obesity. In such a situation, fennel also helps in reducing obesity.
Additionally, fennel soup with barley increases milk production in lactating women.
