Kolkata, June 18 (IANS). Kolkata Metro is going to do something on June 21 which it has never done in its 42 year history. On this day the metro will start running from 4 am.
This is being done so that people can easily reach Red Road in Central Kolkata, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a massive yoga program on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
The services will continue later in the day to ease the travel of NEET UG 2026 candidates.
An official said that the services will run at an interval of 14-15 minutes in both directions between 4 am and 8 am.
The official further said, “Services will start at 4 am on the Blue Line, Green Line and Yellow Line sections. A total of 214 services (107 up and 107 down) will be run on the Blue Line on that day instead of the existing 152 services (on Sunday).”
Services from Dakshineswar to Shaheed Khudiram, Noapara to Shaheed Khudiram, Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Shaheed Khudiram, Shaheed Khudiram to Dakshineswar, Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Dakshineswar, Noapara to Dakshineswar will start at 4 am.
These services will be on the most popular Blue Line, which is the oldest metro corridor in the city. This will make it easier for people from far-flung areas to reach Red Road.
They can get down at Park Street or Esplanade stations and walk to Red Road.
The Green Line section, between Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector-5, will get 173 services (87 up and 86 down) throughout the day instead of the existing 108 services on Sundays.
Services on this network will run at an interval of 15 minutes and 10 minutes in both directions between 4 am and 9 am.
Services from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector-5 and from Salt Lake Sector-5 to Howrah Maidan will start at 4 am.
Passengers can get down at Esplanade station and walk to Red Road and attend the program which will also be addressed by the Prime Minister. There is a lot of excitement in Kolkata regarding the visit of Prime Minister Modi on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
The event to be held on Red Road will be attended by the Chief Minister of West Bengal and all members of the state cabinet.
Many organizations have also decided to participate in it. People are also expected to come from nearby districts.
