New Delhi, July 3 (IANS). People usually ignore headache considering it to be a common problem. Headaches caused by fatigue, lack of sleep, work stress, dehydration, or staring at mobile and computer screens for long periods of time are common and are often cured by rest, but according to medical experts, not every headache is normal. When this pain starts recurring or some unusual changes start appearing in the body along with it, then it is not right to take it lightly. Sometimes these changes can be an early sign of a serious neurological problem, such as a brain tumor.
The biggest misconception about brain tumor is that its first and foremost symptom is a severe and unbearable headache, but medical research shows that in the initial stages this disease often starts with very simple signs, which people mistake for normal fatigue or stress. For this reason, in many cases, identification is not possible at the right time. Symptoms of brain tumor depend on which part of the brain the tumor is in, its size and how fast it is growing.
When abnormal cells start growing somewhere in the brain, it starts putting pressure on the surrounding tissues. Due to this pressure, different types of symptoms can appear. If the tumor is in the thinking or memory area, the person may have trouble forgetting things, difficulty concentrating, or making decisions. Many people consider it as increasing age or mental stress, whereas it can be an early sign.
Similarly, if the tumor affects the part of the brain that controls the ability to see, the person may have problems like blurred vision, double images or weak vision. In some cases, the patient starts having difficulty speaking or feels difficulty in choosing the right words. These changes come slowly, so people do not take them seriously.
Brain tumor can also affect the body’s balance and muscles. In such a situation, a person may feel shaky while walking, may experience weakness in hands and legs or may face difficulty in doing daily tasks. In some cases, sudden irritability, change in behavior or increase in social distance is also seen, which is often confused with mental stress.
Although not every headache is dangerous, there are some signs that need to be paid attention to. If the headache continues to worsen, comes back frequently, wakes you up from sleep, or feels different and more intense than before, it is important to consult a doctor. If symptoms like vomiting, loss of balance, change in vision, weakness or mental confusion also appear along with it, then this condition can become more serious.
