New Delhi, November 16 (IANS). We often ignore Bathua considering it to be an ordinary greens, but in reality it is a treasure trove full of nutrition and benefits. As soon as the cold starts, it grows automatically in the fields, vacant lands and among the crops of wheat, gram and mustard. Because of this, people do not consider it very beneficial, but it is a blessing given by nature.

It is rich in vitamins, minerals and natural properties. Its leaves contain vitamins A, C and K, as well as many antioxidants like calcium, iron and fiber. The entire nutrition tank is filled inside this small plant.

The biggest advantage of eating Bathua in winter is that it improves digestion to a great extent. It provides great relief from common problems like constipation, gas and acidity. Many people drink its juice, which increases appetite and keeps the intestines clean.

It is believed that its fresh juice helps in keeping the liver clean and is also useful in reducing inflammation in the body. Bathua is also considered beneficial in problems like joint pain and stiffness. Apart from this, the vitamins A and C present in it are also great for skin and hair. It also contains good amount of iron, hence people suffering from anemia must eat its greens.

The best part is that it is easily available. Bathua grows on the banks of fields, near gardens, in moist land or empty plots, wherever there is little soil. It is a kind of self-seeding plant.

There are many ways of using it. Bathua saag, paratha, raita, juice, soup, it is even dried and made into powder. In villages it is even given as fodder to animals because it is nutritious.
