New Delhi, January 12 (IANS). Diabetes is a serious problem. If it is not controlled, it can damage the heart, kidneys, eyes as well as every part of the body. Due to this, one may have to face many serious physical problems. It has become very important in today’s time to control blood sugar in natural ways along with medicines.
The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India recommends some everyday superfoods, which are rich in fiber, protein and essential nutrients. These foods not only keep blood sugar balanced, but also stabilize energy levels and reduce uncontrolled hunger.
According to experts, diabetes patients can get a lot of benefit by eating these superfoods regularly. These include foods like fenugreek seeds, cinnamon, barley, millet, oats along with spinach, fenugreek, mustard greens and lentils. Including these superfoods in your daily plate can also reduce the amount of medicines. Also, regular exercise and adequate sleep helps in maintaining good health.
Fenugreek seeds are considered to be the most effective home remedy. By soaking 1-2 spoons of fenugreek seeds after soaking them overnight and eating them on an empty stomach in the morning, blood sugar remains under control to a great extent. At the same time, taking half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder mixed with milk, curd or water daily increases insulin sensitivity and keeps the sugar level stable. Along with this, grains like barley, millet and oats are better alternatives to white rice and flour. They contain high amount of fiber, which allows sugar to be absorbed slowly and prevents sudden increase in sugar.
Spinach, fenugreek and mustard greens are effective for controlling blood sugar. These leafy vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Their regular consumption helps in reducing blood sugar and also detoxifies the body. At the same time, eating a handful of walnuts or almonds daily provides good fats, which reduce insulin resistance. These are also beneficial for the heart.
To control sugar, pulses like moong, gram, lentils, urad should also be included in the food plate, which are rich in protein and fiber. These keep the stomach full for a long time and prevent sudden increase in blood sugar.
