In Bengal, where there is a law of worship of Maa Durga from Shashthi, Dandiya and Garba are celebrated in Gujarat due to Pratipada of Navratri. The festival of Navratri is not just a spiritual festival, but also an opportunity for fitness. Traditional dances such as Garba and Dandiya are not only part of culture, but also help to boost calories, cardio health and mood.

When the garba is continuously for 60–90 minutes, there is about 300–400 calories burn, which is equivalent to light cardio workouts. Rhythmic movement and continuous steps also keep the muscles, core and arms of the feet active. Garba increases the heart rate, improves blood circulation and the risk of heart diseases decreases. A study in 2022 found that systolic blood pressure can decrease from medium speed dance to 5–10 mmHg.

On average, playing one hour of garba can burn 500 to 700 calories depending on your intensity level. According to research, burning 3,500 kg of calories reduces about 0.45 kg (1 pound). Given the period of garba sessions, regular participation in nine days of Navratri can help a lot in weight loss.

Dance is also considered a mood booster. The level of endorphin and serotonin in the brain increases while dancing, which reduces stress. Since Garba is a collective dance, Garba in the team makes social binding (not bonding!) And joy. The movement with music and rhythm increases mental focus and energy.
