New Delhi, December 5 (IANS). Garlic is used in Indian kitchen to enhance taste, but it is no less than a miraculous medicine for health. When it comes to diseases like diabetes, then the role of garlic becomes even more special. Many scientific researches and Ayurvedic texts have confirmed that garlic can provide relief to diabetes patients by improving the body’s sugar management ability.
A big reason for this is that garlic is naturally rich in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and elements that balance heart health.
Garlic has been an important part of home medicine for many decades. According to Ayurveda, garlic has properties like Rason, Agnideepan and Kapha-Vata Shaman, which balance the energy system of the body. Garlic purifies the blood, strengthens digestion and helps in flushing out the toxins accumulated in the body. Its hot nature makes it an effective medicinal substance, which helps in controlling the sugar level in the blood by accelerating the metabolism.
From a scientific point of view, an active element called allicin is present in garlic. Allicin helps increase insulin sensitivity in the body, allowing cells to absorb glucose more easily. This process is helpful in gradually maintaining normal blood sugar levels.
Many researches have found that regular consumption of garlic can help reduce fasting blood sugar and reduce insulin resistance in patients with type 2 diabetes. Apart from this, the sulfur compounds found in garlic are also effective in reducing inflammation in the body, which is considered to be a major reason for increasing the complications of diabetes.
Garlic works to provide relief in diabetes. When the body cannot produce enough or effective insulin, the amount of glucose in the blood begins to increase. Garlic works in this process in two ways: first, it encourages the pancreas to make insulin and second, it strengthens the hold of insulin in the body’s cells. This dual effect significantly helps in controlling blood sugar level. Along with this, garlic makes the blood vessels flexible, which improves blood flow and also reduces the risk of heart-related problems caused by diabetes.
Apart from diabetes, garlic is also known to provide relief in many other diseases. The antibacterial and antiviral properties present in it help in fighting infections. Consumption of garlic can provide fast relief from problems like cold, cough and flu. It is also considered effective in controlling high blood pressure, as it dilates the blood vessels to ease blood flow. Consumption of garlic is also helpful in reducing the risk of heart diseases, improving digestion and strengthening the body’s immunity.
