Get freedom from the noise of the outside world, adopt Karnapidasana and increase mental concentration.

New Delhi, July 25 (IANS). In today’s busy and stressful lifestyle, maintaining mental peace along with physical health has become a big challenge. In such a situation, Karnapidasana is considered an important yoga asana. It is considered helpful in increasing the flexibility of the body and regular practice can help in calming the nervous system and increasing mental concentration.

In Sanskrit, this word is made up of three parts – ‘Karna’, which means ear; ‘Pain’, i.e. pressure or strain; And ‘Asana’, meaning posture. In this yoga posture, light pressure is applied on the ears through the knees. According to yoga tradition, this asana is considered helpful in diverting one’s attention from external distractions and focusing on one’s inner consciousness and concentration.

In Ayurveda and yoga tradition, Karnapidasana has been described as an advanced form of Halasana. With regular practice, it is considered helpful in spinal flexibility, digestion and mental peace. This asana is generally done after Halasana and Sarvangasana. In this, the muscles of the stomach and waist remain active in maintaining the balance of the body.

To do this, first lie straight on your back and keep your palms towards the ground. Then while inhaling, raise the legs and take them behind the head and make the posture of Halasana. After this, slowly bend your knees and try to rest them on the ground on either side of the ears. Keep your hands supported behind your back or straight on the ground. Remain in this position for 30 to 60 seconds while breathing at a normal pace.

With regular practice, this asana is considered helpful in reducing stress and increasing mental concentration and stability. However, people suffering from serious neck or spine injury, hernia, uncontrolled high blood pressure, glaucoma or other serious health problems should do this asana only on the advice of a qualified yoga instructor or doctor.
