New Delhi, June 17 (IANS). The government is going to launch smart warehousing system for storing food grains. This step is taken towards further strengthening the food security of the country through a modern, technology-enabled and more efficient public warehousing system.
Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) will launch the smart warehousing system at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on June 18. Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi will be present in this program.
Smart Warehousing System has been developed as an integrated technology-based solution, which aims to strengthen the warehouse management system and increase the efficiency of food grain storage operations.
This initiative is expected to develop a modern storage mechanism, which will make food grain management more effective and help ensure the food security of the country in the long run.
According to the ministry, this initiative is in line with the vision of government campaigns like Digital India, India AI Mission, PM Gatishakti and Self-reliant India.
During the program the Department will felicitate the warehouses of Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) and Food Corporation of India (FCI) which have performed best under the Depot Mirror Assessment Framework.
Smart warehousing systems will use advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), automation and data analytics to improve warehouse operations and make monitoring systems more effective.
According to the official statement, this system will enable automation of entry gate and weighbridge operations, digital entry management, smart monitoring of warehouse status, better visibility of stock and real-time monitoring of operations through integrated dashboard.
This initiative is part of the comprehensive reform program of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, which aims to promote digital transformation and modernization in the food grain supply chain.
Over the last few years, several steps have been taken to increase transparency, improve efficiency and improve services in the procurement, storage and distribution system.
During the programme, those warehouses which have performed excellently under Depot Darpan will also be honoured. Depot Darpan is a structured evaluation and performance monitoring system, which was launched with the objective of promoting continuous improvement in infrastructure, operations, safety, cleanliness and service quality.
