Dr. Ajit Jain, Additional Professor, Department of Cardiology at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Delhi, explains that if your heart starts beating very fast while climbing the stairs and you have trouble breathing, then it can be a sign of heart problem. This happens because when there is a blockage in the heart due to heart disease, the heart does not get enough oxygen to function. This causes the heart to work harder, which causes difficulty in breathing. Anyone who has a fast heartbeat should consult a doctor.
When is rapid heartbeat a sign of anxiety?
Dr. Jain says that if your heartbeat increases just by climbing stairs or walking, then it could be anxiety. However, there may be other symptoms associated with it. For example, if you feel nervous before going out, your heart rate increases before going to an office meeting, or you are always worried about something or the other, then these are all signs that your mental health is not good. In such a situation, you should consult a psychiatrist.
Anemia or thyroid problems can also be a reason
Dr. Ajit says that in some cases, lack of hemoglobin in the body can cause rapid heart rate. Apart from this, thyroid problems can also increase the heart rate, which is more common in women.
What to do for protection:
Walk for at least 30 minutes every day.
Take a healthy diet.
Do yoga or meditation to reduce stress.
Get regular health checkups done.
